Syma X20W quadcopter with WiFi FPV for live video

The X20W makes use of WiFi FPV

SYMA X20W new quadcopter from SYMA featuring WiFi FPV, headless mode, and flip mode in a small package. Also available are the SYMA X20 with no camera and the SYMA X20 – S with a special single handed transmitter.

The quadcopter is very small at around 4x4x1 inches, comes in black or white, and has a very “flat” appearance which makes me wonder about how it will work with outdoor flights. It comes with removable prop guards but uses a non removable battery so you’ll be waiting in between charges to fly.
The camera is mounted to the front of the camera at a fixed forward facing position and streams video over WiFi to your phone. WiFi FPV is going to have a little bit of latency between you moving and the video stream catching up, normally 0.5-2 seconds depending on signal quality.

Video quality when recorded to the phone is 0.3MP (640 x 480) but if you read the included items it shows a card reader, so there is the possibility for it to record higher quality video on a microSD card or it could just be an oversight on the included items list.

The transmitter fits comfortably in the hands and features a minimalist design with only 4 shoulder buttons, a power button, and 2 control sticks. They’ve removed the need for trim buttons by instead making use of the control sticks to adjust trim by simply pressing one stick in and moving the other to adjust the trim.
Also on top of the transmitter is an adjustable phone mount which fits a pretty wide variety of phone sizes.

Over all the SYMA X20W looks like an okay quadcopter but nothing spectactular, the low flight times and lack of altitude hold for the WiFi FPV seems like it will be difficult to use.
